FDA Compliance & Food Safety

Every food-grade IBC tote we supply meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 requirements for food-contact HDPE containers. This federal regulation governs the types of plastics that may come into direct contact with food products and sets strict limits on extractable substances, residual contamination, and material purity.

Our food-grade cleaning process goes beyond basic washing. We employ a multi-stage protocol that includes triple rinsing, high-pressure hot water washing at 180 degrees F, steam sterilization at 250 degrees F, and a final sanitization with food-safe peracetic acid. Each step is documented, timed, and verified to produce containers that pass visual, odor, and ATP swab testing.

For food and beverage operations enrolled in HACCP, SQF, BRC, or FSSC 22000 programs, we provide complete documentation packages including certificates of cleaning, previous contents declarations, material safety data sheets for all cleaning chemicals, and batch traceability records that satisfy third-party auditor requirements.

Food & Beverage Applications

IBC totes are used throughout the food and beverage supply chain for ingredient storage, processing, transport, and distribution.

Juice & Concentrate Storage

Fruit juices, concentrates, and purees require containers that maintain product purity and prevent microbial contamination. Our food-grade totes provide an airtight, sanitary environment that preserves flavor integrity and extends shelf life during storage and transport.

Syrup & Sweetener Handling

High-viscosity products like corn syrup, maple syrup, honey, and liquid sugar flow cleanly through the 2-inch butterfly valve. Heated tote blankets are available for cold-weather applications where viscosity could impede dispensing.

Edible Oil Storage

Vegetable oil, canola oil, olive oil, and fryer grease are commonly stored and transported in IBC totes. Food-grade totes with documented previous contents ensure no cross-contamination between batches or products.

Brewery & Winery Supply

Craft breweries and wineries use IBC totes for ingredient delivery (malt extract, grape juice, wine must), cleaning chemical storage (caustic soda, peracetic acid), and water treatment solutions. Dedicated containers prevent flavor contamination.

Dairy & Liquid Egg Processing

Liquid dairy products, cream, whey protein concentrate, and liquid egg products require ultra-clean containers with verified sanitization. Our food-grade cleaning protocol meets USDA requirements for containers used in dairy and egg processing facilities.

Sauce, Dressing & Flavor Manufacturing

Ingredient suppliers delivering bulk sauces, dressings, marinades, and flavor concentrates rely on IBC totes for cost-effective, food-safe transport. Containers are cleaned to eliminate any trace of previous contents that could alter flavor profiles.

Recommended Products

For food and beverage applications, we typically recommend reconditioned food-grade or new IBC totes. Used totes are not suitable for direct food contact unless they have been reconditioned to food-grade standards.

Our Food-Grade Cleaning Process

Every reconditioned food-grade tote undergoes our full six-stage cleaning protocol to ensure absolute safety for food-contact applications.

01

Drain & Inspect

Remaining contents are fully drained. Previous contents are identified and documented. The container is assessed for structural integrity and suitability for food-grade reconditioning.

02

Triple Rinse

Three complete rinse cycles with clean potable water remove 99.5%+ of residual product. Rinse water is tested to verify contamination levels.

03

Hot Pressure Wash

Industrial pressure washing at 3,000-4,000 PSI and 180 degrees F removes stubborn residues, biofilms, and mineral deposits from all interior surfaces.

04

Steam Sterilization

Superheated steam at 250-300 degrees F penetrates HDPE surface pores, achieving a 5-log microbial reduction -- killing 99.999% of bacteria, yeasts, and molds.

05

Chemical Sanitization

Food-safe peracetic acid sanitizer applied at controlled concentration and contact time. Final potable water rinse ensures zero sanitizer residue.

06

QA & Certification

Visual inspection, odor test, ATP swab test, and pH verification. New valve, gasket, and cap installed. Cleaning certificate and batch tracking label applied.
